We Have 62 Children In Residence at The Village of Hope In Carani!

2018
October 15
It has been a very busy month for Mariana and her team at The Village of Hope.

Right now, we have 62 children in residence. Twenty-two children are 1 ½ to 3 years old, (three of these children have mothers who are infected with the AIDS virus). Twenty-three children are 3 ½ to 6 years old, and seventeen children are 6 through 14 years old.

Last month 13 children left to go to foster families – and 17 arrived to take their place!  Mariana says that more and more children are being abandoned and need our help.

Here are some of the stories of the children we placed in the last 30 days.

7 ½ year-old Edward and his 6 year-old brother Daniel had been abandoned, abused, and molested before they came to live with us at The Village of Hope. They stayed three months, and then we placed them with Madelina and Darius, who live in Carani with their daughter Maria.  Maria always wanted a brother but Madelina was unable to have more children.  Now Maria has two foster brothers that she loves – and Daniel and Edward have a safe, loving home.

Another foster couple is Liliana and Darius who have no children of their own. They took 2 year-old Carmenia and 10 month-old Lilia who are sisters. The girls’ mother became ill and could no longer care for them, and the father is unknown. She left them in the lobby of Child Protection Services in Timisoara, and they brought them to us.  Carmenia and Lilia were with us for two months and are now in a home where they will be together and be loved.

Foster mother Miriam used to be a nurse at the local children’s hospital. She and her husband Mathius have grown children who no longer live at home.  Juliette, who is 10 months old, was left at a pediatrician’s office by her mother and she never returned.  When Miriam visited The Village of Hope, she instantly fell in love with Juliette and told Mariana she and Mathius would love to take her into their home.

It’s because of your love and faithful support each month that we can continue to place children into families and share these stories of redemption and hope.

One of our recent arrivals at The Village of Hope is Angelia and her 2 year-old daughter Cristina. Angelia has been severely abused and has four other children in various homes and institutions in Romania.  Cristina’s father was arrested on domestic violence charges, and is now in prison. You can see the sadness in Angelia’s eyes – she is very withdrawn and afraid.

Our team of psychologists will work with her over the next couple of months to help her recover and begin to heal from the nightmare she has experienced in her young life. Mariana has already begun looking for the other children, and says she will do all she can to reunite the family and create a good life for Angelia and all of her children.

Mariana said: “Every day we rescue children that have been thrown away by society and treated like garbage. We give them love, hope, and a future.”

These stories are the reason why our foster family sponsorship program is so important.

If you can sponsor a family for one month $43.20. . . or three months $129.60. . . or an entire year $518.40 – you will change the life of a child forever.

Winter is just around the corner. We installed eight Mitsubishi HVAC units on the 3rd floor to provide extra heat to keep the little ones warm this winter. We will also need to buy heating oil for the entire 10,000 square foot facility for six months. This will cost $2,000 a month or $12,000 for the entire winter.

Your gift of $100. . .$75. . .$50. . .or $25 will help us purchase heating oil during the winter months.

I look forward to hearing from you this week.

Sisters Alexandra 21 Months Old and Mimi 9 months Old Find a Loving Foster Family!

2018
October 1

I want to share a great story of hope with you.

Alexandra who is 21 months old, and Mimi who is 9 months old, are sisters.   They were left at a pediatrician’s office by their mother- and she never returned.  When the doctor’s staff contacted Child Protection Services, they immediately called Mariana to see if we could take them.

Our social workers could find no trace of who their father was, and sadly, the young mother was addicted to drugs and alcohol, and unable to provide a safe environment for them. For the last two months they stayed with us on the 3rd floor at The Village of Hope, and now we have found a wonderful foster family to take them.

Alex and Maria have no children of their own and live with Maria’s mother, Marieta, on their farm in a rural village called Giulvaz.  2-1/2 years ago they fostered two of our older boys, Gabriel now 13 and Cosmin 14. Both boys were living on the streets and were brought to us by Child Protection Services. It took our team five months to rebuild their trust and teach them how to live and be part of a loving family.

Recently, when one of our social workers visited the family home, Maria and Alex mentioned that they would like to foster two more little girls. It couldn’t have been a more perfect fit.  In the photo you can see the joy on their faces now that Alexandra and Mimi have joined the family.  These children have what every child deserves – love, hope, a family, and a future.

8 year-old Edward just went into the first grade in a school in Timisoara.  It’s a Romanian tradition for children attending a new school to bring flowers for the teacher.

Edward was at The Village of Hope for six months. His mother had passed away, and his father, unable to cope with the loss, lost his job and their apartment. Child Protection Services turned Edward over to Mariana’s care and she was able to place him with a young couple, Vasile and Nadia, who live in Timisoara.  They have no children of their own and are delighted to have Edward in their lives. You can see he has adjusted well and is a very happy boy.

A brand new arrival at The Village of Hope is 6 year-old Anastasia.  She is very shy and withdrawn, and you can see in the photo that her eyes are filled with fear.  Our social workers are trying to locate her parents and find out what they can about her background. The counselors and care givers are by Anastasia’s side each day, to rebuild her trust and show her what love is.  I will keep you posted on her progress in the weeks ahead - please keep her in your prayers.

We always need more family sponsors at $43.20 per month ($518.40 per year) so we can continue rescuing at-risk children like Alexandra, Mimi, Edward, and Anastasia, and place them into families. Please pray about becoming a regular monthly sponsor.

With school now in session, we have hired a tutor who will come to The Village of Hope six hours a week to work with the children.  Many of the children who have been abandoned have fallen behind in their studies. The tutor will work with them so they can catch up with the other children in their class.  It will cost $500 per month, or $3,500 for the seven months of the school year to tutor the children.

56 partners who will sow a seed of $62.50. . .or 112 partners who will sow a seed of $31.25 (or your best gift) will meet this need.  Please pray about what you can do to help.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

I look forward to hearing from you this week.

We Placed 27 Children Into Foster Families Last Month!

2018
September 15

With summer camp completed and the new school year beginning, Mariana and her team placed another 27 children into foster families last month!

Let me share the story of a family we are supporting and getting ready for the new school year.  Foster parents Liliana and Lionel Iliescu, live in a village called Ohaba, which is close to The Village of Hope. They have grown children and have known of Mariana and the work she does for the children.

They originally fostered two sisters, Alexandra who is 14 year old, and 12 year-old Theodora. When Mariana told them there were two more siblings - 11 year-old Theodore, and 9 year-old Cyprian – they agreed to take all four children! As you can see in the pictorial, Mariana found them happy and well-adjusted when she visited the home two weeks ago.

Mariana is so happy that all four siblings are able to stay together. She told us she could not imagine the trauma, fear, and abuse these children would face without a safe home and loving foster parents to care for them.

All of the children are very smart and eager to learn. One of our social workers will assist Liliana with the children so she doesn’t get overwhelmed during the school year. It’s your prayers and your support that make it possible for this couple to open up their home and their hearts to these children.

Another family we are supporting is Maria and Volar Popescu, who fostered two sisters. Luminita is 7 years old, and Carmenita is 6 years old. They live in the town of Jabar, a farming community outside Timisoara, and they have just been approved to foster a third sibling – 5 year-old brother Sorin.

Child Protection Services didn’t allow Sorin to be placed into a foster family because he didn’t speak. He had been living in filth and neglect with an elderly aunt and uncle and needed special care and attention. Sorin has been living at The Village of Hope for the past 5 months. With love and care from our social workers, slowly he began to speak, socialize, and play with the other children. Last month Child Protection Services approved Sorin going to the same foster family as his sisters. He will be attending school this year in Jabar, and is a very happy, intelligent little boy!

Yasmina, who is 4 years old, just arrived. Child Protection Services brought her to us because her elderly grandparents became ill and could no longer care for her. She is very shy and still adapting to her new surroundings. We will keep her at The Village of Hope for several months, and place her in kindergarten in Carani, with the other children.  Please keep her in your prayers.

The reason I share these stories with you each month is because we always need more family sponsors.  Abused and neglected children arrive at The Village of Hope every single week and they need our love, our help, and our support.

Would you prayerfully consider sponsoring a foster family at $43.20 per month, or $129.60 for three months, or $518.40 for a year?

We still have children that need back-to-school supplies – things like backpacks, books, note paper, pens and pencils, etc.  It costs $17 for each child.

Please pray about providing school supplies for one child $17. . .2 children $34. . .4 children $68. . . or 10 children at $170 .  Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

I look forward to hearing from you this week.

Provide School Supplies To a Child

156 Children Need Back-To-School Supplies!

2018
September 1
As you read this, the final 12-day summer camp session is underway. Thank you for making summer camp 2018 a great success!  Because of your generosity – 371 children attended this year!

Mariana and her team are also getting the children ready to go back to school.  Right now, we have 156 children that need our help with back-to-school supplies – things like backpacks, books, note paper, pens and pencils, etc.  If you have children in school, you know how much it costs to get the basic supplies!

Mariana knows a local supplier who works with the schools, and he is willing to provide these items for us at cost.  It will take $17 to provide each child with back-to-school supplies.

Would you prayerfully consider providing supplies for one child $17. . .2 children $34. . .
4 children $68. . . or 10 children at $170 ?  Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.

We also continue to rescue at-risk children on a daily basis at The Village of Hope and find foster families to take them.  Let me share the stories of a few of the children we have placed this month.

14-year-old Razvan and his 5-year-old brother Rual were found begging on the streets in Timisoara.  They are from a large gypsy family, and have seven other siblings. Razvan was being sexually abused, so he ran away from home and took his little brother Rual with him, fearing he would also be abused.

They spent five months with us at The Village of Hope, so they could heal, be loved and cared for, and regain their trust, before being placed into a foster family.  Razvan will be starting school this month, and wants to study accounting.

We were able to place Rual and another girl, 11-year-old Gianina, with a family in the same village as Razvan – so he is able to see his little brother on a daily basis. Gianina came to us very withdrawn after years of abuse and neglect. One of our psychologists has worked with her for 3 months to help her begin to recover from the horror she experienced.

Mariana says it is a slow process for these children to heal, but the light is coming back into their eyes, laughter is replacing fear, play is replacing aggression – as they realize they are in a safe and loving environment. We will continue weekly therapy sessions to be sure they are adjusting to their new life.

Another child is 2-year-old Mihai.  Child Protection Services contacted Mariana and asked her to intervene and assist Mihai’s grandparents.  The little boy’s parents went to Europe to find work so they could send some financial support, but the grandparents haven’t heard from them for over a year.

They are able to keep Mihai at night and over the weekend, but need a place for him to stay during the day. Mihai gets dropped off each morning, and stays with us at The Village of Hope, where he gets to play and have fun with the other little kids on the 3rd floor.  He is a very happy, sweet little boy.

I tell you these stories in all of my letters because I want you to know these are “real lives” – “real children” – with “real stories” of abuse and neglect – that you are helping us rescue and bring hope and love into their lives.

Today I was reading these words – “We are partners working together for God” (1Co 3:9 GNT). Debby and I could not do any of this without our partners. Mariana and her great team work tirelessly day after day – but it is only because of your support each month that we are able to continue this great work.

It takes $43.20 per month . . . ($518.40 per year) to place a child into a family – please prayerfully consider becoming a foster family sponsor – and change the life of a child forever!

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Provide School Supplies To a Child

“Children are a gift from God” Psalm 127:3 (TLB) Psalm 127:3 (TLB)

2018
August 15

Summer camp continues at The Village of Hope with just two more 12-day sessions before school starts!  This year we budgeted for 350 children. Thanks to your generosity and support, we’ve been able to bring 371 children.

More than 260 of the children who attended are kids we placed into families within the last year. We bring them back so they can have fun, reconnect with friends, and tell us how they are adjusting to life with their new families.

Mariana told us that after summer camp ends September 8th, we will need to paint and repair The Village of Hope to make it look “like new” again.  This is normal wear and tear with so many children running and playing throughout the building.

We will paint the rooms, replace tiles in the bathrooms and kitchen, clean carpets and do some carpentry repairs.  It’s a 10,000 square foot home – so it will cost $5,000 to do this.

50 friends and partners giving $100. . .or 100 friends and partners giving $50. . .or 200 giving $25 will meet this need.  Please pray about what you can do to help us.

The Bible says, "Children are a gift from God." They are so precious to Him, that the Bible mentions children 1,524 times – more than most other subjects.

“[Jesus said], ‘Let the little children come to Me’...And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them" (Mark 10:13-16 NKJV).

Imagine a child being touched by Jesus, held in His arms and blessed by Him. That’s our mission each day – to be like Jesus and rescue and “bless” children by changing their lives forever.

Let me share a little about  Simona. She is 3 years old and was abandoned by her mother at birth. She spent the first 1-½ years of her life in an orphanage. A pediatric nurse, who volunteers at The Village of Hope, told Mariana about her. Mariana asked Child Protection Services to sign her over to us – and they did!

Mariana had the perfect parents for her - a young couple who had been trying to have a family of their own and couldn’t. They were desperate for a little girl, and fell in love with Simona the moment they saw her. Today she’s a beautiful, blessed, happy child.

Another placement into a foster family are two siblings: 8 year-old Maria and 5 year-old Sebastian. They were abandoned by their mother when she ran off with a man who didn’t want them.

A neighbor in the next apartment heard them crying, called Child Protection Services, and brought them to us last November. They were traumatized and shy when they arrived, and it took time for our social workers to gain their trust.

In one of Mariana’s foster family information meetings she met Sylvia and Leonard. Sadly, their son had passed away several years before, so they wanted to foster some children. They immediately connected with Sebastian and Maria and took them into their home.

The smiles on their faces that these children have found a new family where they feel loved, secure, and cared for – Sylvia is a wonderful mother.

Your support each month enables us to rescue children like Simona, Maria and Sebastian, place them into families – and “bless” them – as Jesus did!

For $43.20 per month or $518.40 per year you can help these families with necessities like food, clothing, medical and dental care.

Will you prayerfully consider helping us this month?  Your gift in any amount will change the life of a child forever!

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

I look forward to hearing from you,

13 Children Placed Into Foster Families Last Month and 200 Children Have Attended Summer Camp!

2018
August 1

We are halfway through summer camp with just 6 weeks to go until school goes back in September.  So far, 200 children have attended summer camp and our goal is 350.   It costs $75 to send a child to camp – so we need another $11,250 to close out summer camp 2018.  Would you please consider sponsoring one or more of these children?

Even while camp is going on, at-risk kids arrive almost every day. The Village of Hope is like “a revolving door." As one child leaves with a new foster family, another one arrives needing a family to love and care for them.

This past month we placed another 13 children into foster families.  Let me share some of the new foster moms that have taken children.

5 ½  year-old Catalin with his new foster mom.  He came to The Village of Hope two years ago when his birth mother was diagnosed with AIDS.  As a precaution, Mariana was able to locate a drug for him called Viusid – thankfully the AIDS virus is not in his system.

A young foster mom who recently took 6 ½ month- old Adina into her home. She has now taken Adina’s 4 year-old brother, Rafael.  They were abandoned by their mother, so being able to keep them together is important.

4 siblings who just arrived at VOH.  Matthais aged 9, Simona aged 8, Stephan aged 6, and Maria aged 4.  Their parents went to Germany to find work and never returned.  After 6 weeks trying to survive on their own, a neighbor found them huddled on the street, dirty and begging for food. She called Child Protection Services – who brought them to us.

The oldest boy Matthais clinging to his little sister to protect her. It’s heartbreaking. Only God knows the abuse these children have gone through and how it has impacted their young lives.  They will stay with us until they have healed.

Our social workers will begin a search to see if they can find any family members who can take them.  If not, we will find a foster family and do our very best to keep them together.

Today I was reading the Apostle Paul's words to those who are financially blessed:

"Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and should give happily to those in need, always being ready to  share with others.”
(1 Timothy 6:18 TLB)

As you know, we have hundreds of foster families in our sponsorship program.  Many of them are poor and need our help every month with things like rent, food, clothing, medical and dental care, in order to take and keep a child.

For just $43.20 per month, or $518.40 a year, you can change the life of a child forever.  Please pray about what you can do to help us this month.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

I look forward to hearing from you.

138 More Children Placed Into Foster Families In The First Six Months of 2018!

2018
July 15
Here are some very encouraging statistics I want to share with you for the first half of 2018!

Each month this year we rescued an average of 23 children from Romania's streets, state-run orphanages, abusive families, and human trafficking.  Child Protection Services and the Border Police bring them to The Village of Hope where we find foster families to take them.

In the first 6 months of this year we have found foster homes for 138 children! It's truly an amazing accomplishment and it's happening because of the love and generosity of friends and partners like you. Thank you!

Even while children's summer camp is going on we are rescuing and placing children into families.

Today I was reading again the parable of the Good Samaritan. Two different clergymen, a Priest and a Levite, passed by the spot where a wounded traveler lay dying, but failed to stop and help. Why? What could have been more important?

Jesus said, “But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion” (Luke 10:33 NKJV). Compassion is what moved him to care for the traveler who'd been beaten up by a gang and left to die. We then read that he administered first-aid and “bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine”
(v. 34 NKJV).

But he didn’t stop there.  This Good Samaritan took the man to an inn and paid for a room so he could spend the next few days recovering. He told the innkeeper: "Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you” (v. 35 NKJV).

Jesus ended His parable with these soul searching words: "Go and do likewise."

That's what we do at The Village of Hope everyday, and we are so grateful for your partnership with us.

This month we need your help to send another 50 children to summer camp. It costs $75 to send a child to summer camp for 12 fun-filled days of arts and crafts, swimming, games, dance, drama, and Bible stories.

It costs $35 for summer clothes for each child. Many of them come from poor families and need our help with basics like shorts, t-shirts, bathing suits, sneakers, etc.

We also need your help to underwrite more foster families at $43.20 a month ($518.40 per year).

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

I look forward to hearing from you this week.

God bless you.

The Second Group of 50 Children Arrive At Summer Camp!

2018
July 1

This week the second group of 50 children will arrive for 12 days of summer camp at the Village of Hope in Carani, Romania. The first group had a wonderful time.

From arts and crafts to swimming, sports, cultural events and museums, visits to the zoo, children's theater, sing-alongs around the campfire at night, Bible stories and videos that teach them about Jesus – it's non-stop action...just the way the children like it!

Three of the older boys who attended camp for the past few years, have now returned to work with the younger children.

Robbie is 13, Andre is 14, and Vasile is 12. Mariana, our director, says: ”Their lives were changed by their experience at summer camp, and now they want to give back what they received.” We have other kids who do the same.

They all love to eat!

Eating together as a “family” makes every child feel loved and cared for, not only by our caregivers and counselors, but by each other as well.

Last month we sent $5,000 to Mariana so she could lock in the catering and the food prices for the 12 weeks of camp. That way we get the best price.

This year 12 camp sessions will run until school returns in mid-September. The cost of hosting 350 children is $26,250!  For each child we need $75.00 to cover all the expenses for 12 days of camp.

We need your help with summer camp, as this $26,250 is in addition to our regular operating budget and foster family program.

I've asked God to speak to the hearts of 100 friends and partners to give $262.50...or 200 friends and partners to give $131.25...or 400 friends and partners to give $65.63...or your very best gift.

Anything you can do is appreciated, and will make a difference. Would you please pray about this need?

Our foster family program continues through the summer camp season. I've included a photo of the latest couple to take two beautiful children who had been abandoned and abused. Nicholas is 7 and Jasmine is 4. They now have two loving parents who absolutely delight in them.

Jesus said in John 13:35: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another”(NIV).

The love of Jesus is the fuel that The Village of Hope runs on, and it’s precious folks like you that make it all possible.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

I'll be looking to hear from you this week.

Help Send a Child To Summer Camp

Children's Summer Camp Begins This Week!

2018
June 15
Blessings to you!

Excitement is running high at The Village of Hope in Romania. We are getting ready for 350 children to come to summer camp over the next three months in groups of 50, for 12 fun-filled days.

Last year’s summer camp, was one of our most successful camps ever!

There will be educational field trips, arts and crafts workshops to help discover the children's talents, competitive athletic games in an Olympic size pool, evening Bible stories and videos, sing-a-longs around the campfire each night, and nutritious meals, ice-cream and treats!

We can do all of this for just $6.25 per day per child, or $75 per child for 12 days.

Would you prayerfully consider sponsoring several children? For $750 you can sponsor 10 children or for $375 you can sponsor 5 children.

Perhaps your missions department at church, or a group of friends at work could get together and do this.

Today I was reading these two Scriptures, and I believe they speak to you and me about what we are doing together at The Village of Hope. The Apostle Paul wrote:

“I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’” (Acts 20:35 NKJV).

The Psalmist David said:

“Blessed is he who considers the poor; the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, and he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed” (Psalm 41:1-3 NKJV).

With 59 children currently in residence at The Village of Hope, along with a list of qualified foster families wanting to take a child, we are in need of more “family sponsors” who will give $1.44 a day, or $43.20 a month, or $86.40 for two months, or $129.60 for 3 months, or $518.40 for 1 year.

This enables us to help a family take a child into their home.
You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Help Send a Child To Summer Camp

Update from The Village of Hope!

2018
June 1

Right now we have 59 children at The Village of Hope in Carani, Romania ages 2-14 years! We try to limit the number of children in residence to 50, but when the police and Child Protection Services bring them to us, we cannot turn them away.

You ask, “How do you handle the overflow?” We pray daily for more foster parents to take them, and God has been faithful and answered our prayer.

6 year-old Matthew, 4 year-old Victor, and 2 year-old Stephan, are brothers. They have never known their father, and their mother abandoned them in their apartment and didn't return.

Matthew went to the neighbors next door and begged for food because they were hungry and his baby brother Stephan was crying.

We are canvassing our list of qualified foster families searching for someone to take all three boys, as we want to try and keep them together.

It's wonderful when we can place children with loving foster parents. Like two year-old Timothy, whom we just placed with a young married couple who were unable to have children of their own.

A couple who have two boys of their own, have decided to double their family and take 18 month-old Daniel and 3 year-old Stephania. Even Grandma, who lives with them, is excited.

Another new arrival is shy 5 year-old Simona. The abuse this child has suffered would break your heart. But the Bible says,"[Our God] heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds" (Ps 147:3 NKJV). So we know He has just the right foster family for her.

5 year-old Tatiana’s mother left her at a doctor’s office promising to come back - she never did! Fortunately the doctor works with us at The Village of Hope, so he contacted Marianna and placed her in our care.

Again, we will find just the right parents for her. But you can only imagine the trauma this child will deal with the rest of her life.

You ask, "Bob, what can I do to help?" Pray and send your very best gift of support.

June 20 starts our annual children's summer camp. There will be 12 fun-filled days for the children who attend – with 350 children coming this year.

They will have field trips to museums, pool parties, arts and crafts, athletic activities and horseback riding. In the evening, we build a camp-fire and have a sing-a-long, and read Bible stories.

The cost is $75 per child for 12 fun-filled days of summer camp. Would you consider sponsoring one or several children this year?

These children also need summer clothes: shorts, T-shirts, sandals and swimwear. We can provide summer clothes for a child for $35. Please pray about doing this.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

God bless you,

15 NEW ARRIVALS!

2018
May 15

So far this month we have had 15 at-risk kids arrive at The Village of Hope. I'm sending you photos of a few of them.

Seven month-old Ilinca and her 6-year-old brother Adrian; were abandoned by their parents who left Romania to look for work, promising to bring the children to be with them. But it never happened - so Child Protection Services brought them to us.

Two little brothers; Carmen who is 6 and his 4 year-old brother Caesar. Again, this is a case of parental abandonment which means they land on our doorstep.

Many of the children have been physically abused, some sexually abused, and all of them mentally and emotionally abused.

Can you imagine the trauma a child experiences when their parents disappear from their lives leaving them to fend for themselves? The message it sends to a child is:

"You're not worth loving or caring for!"

When Debby and I first went to Romania almost 25 years ago, one of the Scriptures the Lord gave us was:

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress" (James 1:27 NIV).

Since then, we have helped rescue 3,466 at-risk children, placed them into foster families, and provided financial support for many of them.

Besides this, we work hard to "keep needy families together" by doing several things:

1. We find jobs for fathers who are out of work - not an easy challenge with a 50% unemployment rate in rural areas of Romania.

2. We bring those in need together, allowing them to teach one another certain skill sets. For example, more experienced mothers teach teen mothers how to care for their babies.

3. Older women teach the younger women skills like sewing, baking, or how to grow a vegetable garden. This also gives the older generation a sense of being valued and needed.

Next week we prepare the soil for our summer vegetable garden. Besides raising chickens and pigs, and keeping two cows for milk, we grow most of the vegetables the children eat through the summer and winter months to save money.

The children work in the garden which teaches them to care for things, discover their creativity, and work as a team.

To purchase the plants for our garden this year will cost $750. Can you help?

3 partners giving $250...or 10 partners giving $75...or 20 partners giving $37.50...or your best gift will meet this need.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Bob

P.S. We urgently need "Family Sponsors." Even if you can sponsor 3 months at $129.60, it means we can place the child while we wait for a one-year sponsor.

Last Month We Placed 14 Children Into Foster Families!

2018
May 1
This past month we placed another 14 children into foster families, ages 1-12 years. Some families have taken two children.

3-year-old Anna and her 7-year-old brother Darius with their new foster Mom. Their new dad is a dentist, so this is one of those rare families that has a good income and will not require assistance from us.

8-year-old Marius and his 1-year-old sister Isabella with their new foster mom. (Sometimes the dads are reluctant to have their photos taken).

The Village of Hope is a light in the darkness as we hear more and more stories of children being abused, abandoned, and sadly, sold into human trafficking.

The maternity hospital in Timisoara has babies being delivered daily, and then being abandoned by teen mothers who are barely more than children themselves. We get the calls to care for them.

Our social workers work with pediatricians and pharmacies to get the medicines that a baby requires. Patients in Romanian hospitals usually pay for their own medicines, so we pay for the prescriptions these babies need.

This year, our goal is to rescue another 250-300 at-risk children. And it's only possible because of the generosity of partners like you who pray and support this ministry.

The truth is – we couldn’t do it without you. Thank you!

The Bible teaches us that when we care for the needs of others, God promises that our needs will be met too.

“Share your food with the hungry...provide the poor wanderer with shelter – when you see the naked, to clothe them, and [do] not to turn away...Then your light
will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear...Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here
  am I” (Isa 58:7-9 NIV).

What wonderful promises! And they are ours when we reach out to care for the needs of others.

You ask, “Bob, how can I help?” Here are three ways:

1. Please keep us in your prayers each day.

2. For $43.20 a month, or $518.40 a year, you can become a “Family Sponsor” making it possible for us to place another at-risk child into a loving, secure family.

3. Give your “very best one-time gift” to help with the ongoing needs of our work.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

We look forward to hearing from you.

We Have 59 Children at The Village of Hope!

2018
April 15
Blessings to you!

Right now we have 59 children at The Village of Hope in Carani, Romania. Fifteen are preschoolers, 44 are older children. In the photos you will see some of our social workers caring for the little ones.

Not only do we place an average of 20-25 children into foster families every month, we work within the community to keep families together.

This week, we visited one of the most impoverished areas of town and found four families in need of help. One family has 17 children, one has 11, one has 7, and one has 4. All of the fathers work hard but earn very little, and the mothers struggle to make ends meet.

Our director, Mariana, says the children are beautiful and the families just need “a little help” to be able to stay together. So we provide things like food staples, clothes, counseling, health care, and help with utilities.

Another area I haven’t talked about much in my letters is our tutoring program.  I've included a photo of a tutor who comes three times a week to work with children who have missed a lot of school and are behind in their studies.

Mariana says, “When a child leaves to go live with a foster family, often 2 or 3 at-risk children arrive to take their place.”

Three of our youngest arrivals this week are: Iaisha who is 8 months-old, Andrea who is 5 months-old, and Paulette who is 18 months-old.

Can you imagine the trauma these kids have already experienced in their short lives through abuse and abandonment?

We get calls around the clock from the Police, Border Patrol and Child Protection Services, asking us to send our van to pick up children in desperate circumstances. Thank God we have never had to say no, or turn a child away.

Recently we placed 5-year-old Isabella into a loving foster family. I've included a photo of her with her new parents, Carla and Ionut. They were unable to have children of their own and told us: “We have simply fallen in love with Isabella.”

You ask, “Bob, what can I do to help?” Two things:

1. Pray that God will continue to provide the resources to keep this ministry strong. It's considered one of the most successful of its kind in Europe.

2. For $1.44 a day...$43.20 a month...$259.20 for 6 months or $518.40 for a year, you can place a child into a foster family where they will receive love, hope, security, and a future.

Jesus said, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these...you did for me” (Matthew 25:40 NIV).

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Please let me hear from you this week.

230 At-risk Children Received Easter Baskets With Clothes, Fruit, Chocolates, and a Special Children's Bible!

2018
April 1
A blessed Easter to you!

This week our team of social workers delivered Easter baskets to 230 of Romania's neediest children. Forty-five of them are in residence at The Village of Hope waiting for a foster family. The other 185 children have already been placed into foster families over the past six months.

Most of these families are extremely poor, and this is the first time they have received an Easter gift. You can imagine their excitement!

Let me share some of the highlights from this past week with you.

Four older children examine their Easter baskets and they all received a special children's illustrated Bible. It's the first Bible they have ever owned. Our prayer is that in reading it, they and many more like them, will meet Jesus and grow up to serve Him.

A group of 20 older children with two of our social workers helped put the Easter baskets together. After receiving their own basket, they wanted to say “thank you” to the partners and friends of this ministry for making it possible.

Another group of 40 younger children, along with some of our care-givers, were invited to The Village of Hope to receive their first Easter basket.

Two new arrivals are Marisa and Luminitta. Marisa is 6 years-old, and very intelligent. Luminitta is 2½ years-old, and has a bubbly, upbeat personality. Whoever named her did a great job – because her smile lights up the room.

I’m asking you to pray that God will find qualified couples to love and care for them, as they’ve suffered a lot in their short lives.

Jesus said, “The thief’s purpose is to steal, kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” (John 10:10 NLT).

Satan has tried to destroy the lives of these children. But through the prayers and generosity of friends and partners like you, we are rescuing them, and placing 20-25 of them into foster families each month.

You ask, “Bob, what can I do to help you?”

First, pray for Debby and me each day. Second, for $43.20 a month...or $259.20 for 6 months...or $518.40 a year, you can help us place one of these children into a foster family and give them a new life.

The truth is, your gift in any amount, will make a world of difference for a child.

How Our Foster Family Program Works!

2018
March 15
Blessings to you!

Each month we rescue and place 20 to 25 at-risk children into foster families in Romania. It's the most successful program of its kind in the country, and we've received several awards from the Romanian government and the European Community. We are also visited and audited annually by both.

Recently, I was asked how our foster family program works, and I thought you'd be interested in the answer.

When a family applies for a child, our social workers conduct a thorough background check to be sure they are qualified. Then we assess what level of help the family will need to take a child, or in some cases, several children (usually siblings).

Some families don’t need our help. Others need varying levels of assistance with things like food, clothes, medical, dental, transportation, school supplies, etc. In rural areas, unemployment runs at over 50 percent, so we often have to help the family with utility bills.

Our team makes unannounced spot-checks with a family to be sure the children are well cared for. They also bring packages of warm cloths, canned food, and staples like medicine, bedding, household cleaning supplies, etc.

Our staff works three shifts, and we get calls 24/7 to pick up children found on the border, the streets, the human trafficking trade, or abandoned in a house or apartment with no adult supervision.

Mariana is the director of our foster family program with nine of her team members who work the busiest shift are in the photo to the right of this blog.

This year, we have four volunteers from Italy. They are graduates from a university who have come to The Village of Hope for a one-year internship, working with children 2 to 6 years of age.

One of these children is 5 year-old Gianina. Her parents left her in their apartment and never returned. A neighbor found her crying, traumatized, and alone.

I have a son, Neil, and a daughter, Kathleen, and three college-aged grandchildren. And I cannot for the life of me imagine abandoning them and never again being a part of their lives. If you're a parent, I know you share my sentiments.

That's why at 74, I'm still involved in rescuing these children and giving them what every child deserves...love, hope, a home, and a future.

I know I can't do it alone, and I thank you for caring and helping to make it possible. Your gift in any amount, means we can place another 20 to 25 children into foster families this month.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

JESUS – AND THE CHILDREN!

2018
March 1
Blessings to you!

Today I was reading how Jesus felt about children. The disciples treated them as a nuisance and an interruption to their busy schedule. Not Jesus!

Mark 10:14-16 says, "When Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased...And He took them up in his arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them"(NKJV).

Why was Jesus "greatly displeased"? Because He understood that the way a child is treated, determines how that child will grow up and treat others. 90% of all child molesters were themselves molested as children.

When children are repeatedly hurt by those who should love them, it devastates their self-worth. It also causes them to look for love and acceptance in all the wrong places...like peer groups and pimps who introduce them to sex, drugs, gangs and violence.

Almost every day we get children who've been abused and abandoned by their families, and exploited by human traffickers. We work with them to heal their emotional wounds, and then find qualified foster families who will love and care for them.

We do this for 20 to 25 children each month!

Some of the children we have recently placed are 6 year-old Maria who loves to work in the kitchen with her new foster mom, 5 year-old Andre who enjoys doing puzzles with his new foster parents, 5 year-old Ellen and her 3 year-old brother Victor who  love their new home and the family dog, and 3 year-old Michael whose foster parents couldn't have children of their own, and they see him as a "special gift from God."

Debby and I have been working with Romania's most at-risk kids for over 25 years. We thought by now the problem would have been solved, or at least decreased. It hasn't! More and more children are being abandoned.

This week 3 year-old Iliana was left at a doctor’s office by her mother, who said she didn't want the responsibility of caring for her anymore. She is now in our care with six other children 3 through 6 years old.

The older children at The Village of Hope help the younger ones adjust to their new surroundings. It's quite moving each night to see the older kids comfort the younger ones as they cry themselves to sleep.

Right now, we have 37 children at The Village of Hope waiting to be placed into a foster family. We have more than enough qualified foster families who want a child, but they need help from us to make it happen.

Here's the score!

For $1.44 a day, less than the price of a cup of coffee, you can put a child and a family together. For $43.20 a month, or $86.40 for 2 months, or $129.60 for 3 months, or $518.40 for a year, you can put a child and a family together.

Two partners giving $21.60 a month will also enable a family to take a child. The truth is, no gift is too big and none too small.

Perhaps your employer or your church’s mission department would like to help. If you have questions, please call my assistant Tom at 404-831-7616.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

We Have 42 Children Ages 2-12 Years Old at The Village of Hope

2018
February 15

Blessings to you!

Right now we have 42 children at The Village of Hope in Carani, Romania dreaming of a new life with a family. And we are working hard to make that dream come true for every child.

This week three children whose parents have AIDS arrived. Caitlin and Andre are 5 years-old and Maria is 6 years-old. Thank God none of them are infected. Child Protection Services found them in a state-run orphanage where the living conditions were bad and brought them to us.

The doctors who assist us said we needed to purchase a special medicine from Spain called VIUSID which acts like a protective shield for children of AIDS parents, so we got it.

Our social workers are looking for foster parents to take them. Please pray about this, as placing these children will not be easy due to fear and ignorance about the disease.

Last week we placed six children into foster families in six days. That’s one a-day!

Josef and Gabriela are 4 years-old, Carmina and Alina are 5 years-old. They are bundled up in warm winter clothes provided by the generous partners of Bob Gass Ministries.

We just received the 2017 United Nations annual report on living conditions in Romania. Not good!  The poverty and unemployment levels keep rising, especially in rural areas where many of our foster parents live.

These couples have big hearts, but they struggle to get by. That's why we support them with food, clothes, utilities, medical, dental, rent, and school supplies.

The report says Romania's oldest and youngest are at the greatest risk. School drop-out rate is very high, as are teen pregnancies, abortions, sexually transmitted diseases, and children being sold by their families to human traffickers.

Recently someone asked me, “Bob, don't you get discouraged when things in the country seem to get worse instead of better?” I said, “No, we celebrate every child rescued.”

In the past 20 years we've rescued over 3,500 children and placed them into foster families. That number is equal to the population of some small towns in Romania.

One of the children we rescued 20 years-ago, graduated from college recently and joined our team of social workers.

Right now I need your help!

For $1.44 a day or $43.20 a month or $518.40 a year, you can make it possible for a foster couple to take a child. Even if you can be a sponsor for 2 months at $86.40, we can place a child while we wait for a full-time sponsor.

One of the Bible verses our ministry is founded on is Psalm 82:3-4:

"Defend the poor and fatherless, do justice to the

afflicted and needy...free them from the hand of the

 wicked." (NKJV)

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Thank you for caring. I look forward to hearing from you.

Last Month We Placed Another 26 Children Into Foster Families

2018
February 1

Blessings to you!

In January we rescued another 26 children from Romania's state-run orphanages, streets, and the sex trade, and placed them into foster families where they will be loved and given hope for the future.

We are on track to place over 300 more at-risk children into families this year! And it's happening through the prayers and support of faithful friends and partners like you. Thank you!

For each child that left us last month, another one arrived to take their place. It's a revolving door.

One of the children we placed is 6 year-old Stephanie who  stayed with us at The Village of Hope for almost 3 months while our social workers helped heal the emotional scars from the terrible abuse she has suffered.

Three more children we placed into families last month are 6 year-old Joseph, 2 year-old Ana, and her 5 year-old brother Simon.

Recently our director Mariana was in Timisoara and the police recognized her and brought her two little brothers they had found abandoned, cold, wandering the streets begging for food. The temperatures had gotten down to 12 degrees below zero and the boys had no winter clothes. Daniel is 4 and his brother Theodore is 5.

You ask, "What did you do with them?"

First, we brought them to The Village of Hope and had them examined by a doctor. We are checking to see if they have any living relatives willing to take them. If not, we will find a foster family to take both brothers so we can keep them together.

For just $1.44 a day or $43.20 a month, we can enable a qualified couple to take a child into their home. These couples have big hearts but need our help with utilities, food, clothes, school supplies, medical and dental, etc. Unemployment in rural areas of Romania is over 50%!

Our "Family Sponsors" are the life-line of our ministry. In the last 20 years they have helped rescue and place over 3,500 at-risk children into families.

But we need more sponsors! Would you prayerfully consider becoming one this year?

Today I was reading the wonderful promises God makes to us when we care for the needy.

"Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The
Lord rescues them when they are in trouble. The Lord
protects them and keeps them alive. He gives them
prosperity in the land and rescues them from their
enemies. The Lord nurses them when they are sick and
restores them to health" (Psalm 41:1-3 NLT).

Goals & Needs For 2018

2018
January 15
Blessings to you!

Jesus talked about the prayer of agreement! He said, "If two of you agree on earth concerning anything they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven" (Mt 18:19 NKJV). Note the word "anything."

In the past two weeks we have received many letters from friends and partners like you sharing their "Needs and Goals for 2018." These requests include guidance, healing, jobs, homes, marriages restored, salvation of a loved one, habits broken, financial breakthroughs and protection.

Each day of this first month of 2018 we are PRAYING...THE PRAYER OF AGREEMENT over each of them, believing God to answer prayer. And He will! Jesus said, "It will be done for them by My Father in heaven."

At the beginning of last year Debby and I prayed that God would open the door for us to take our daily devotional into new nations around the world – and He has done it in an amazing way!

1. China. The Chinese government has given us permission to print 10,000 one-year editions of The Word For You Today for 10,000 pastors in the state-approved church. This is a historic breakthrough.

2. Russia. Last year President Putin ruled that all religious activities must be confined to within the four walls of the church building. Yet we have been given permission to print and distribute 100,000 Russian language copies of The Word For Today across Russia each quarter.

3. Cuba. In 2017 the Cuban government stopped all foreign Bible Societies from sending Bibles into Cuba. Half of all Christians there cannot get a Bible. Yet we have permission to print 25,000 quarterly copies in Havana and distribute them through a network of 2,000 churches.

4. Latin America. Last year we began publishing 100,000 quarterly Spanish language copies of The Word For You Today in Argentina, 50,000 copies in Ecuador, and next month we begin broadcasting The Word For You Today via television to all of Latin America.

5. Africa. Last year we began broadcasting The Word For You Today on television across the African continent, taking God’s life-changing Word to another 56 nations.

6. Romania. In 2017 we rescued another 276 at-risk children from state-run orphanages, the streets, and sex trafficking, and placed them into loving foster families. We also reached a major milestone...in the past 20 years we have rescued and placed 3,500 children.

As Debby and I enter 2018, we are doing two things we know will make a difference in our lives and ministry this year:

First, we have written down a list of our top goals and needs for 2018.

Second, we are giving God a special offering of $2,018. (You can also give $201.80 or $20.18.) We are "sowing" this into God’s kingdom, believing Him for a "harvest of blessing" in the areas where we will need it most in 2018.

We invite you to join us in doing this too.

Your friends and partners,

Bob & Debby

Goals & Needs For 2018

A Very Blessed New Year To You!

2018
January 1
In January of each New Year we like to send you a report of what we accomplished together for God in the previous year. Here's your 2017 report:

1. We rescued another 277 at-risk children in Romania and placed them into foster families. That's an average of 23 children each month, and a total of 3,500 children since we began keeping records about 20 years ago.

2. We purchased 2 new minivans to transport the children and staff.

3. We purchased and installed a new heating system for The Village of Hope.

4. We provided 12 days of summer camp and summer clothes for 490 children from our poorest foster families.

5. We delivered "Christmas parcels" with toys, candies, games, and books to 350 foster families living in impoverished rural areas.

6. We held seminars in towns across Romania to attract those interested in taking a child. Right now we have a list of qualified foster couples wanting a child. Please pray we will find sponsors willing to give $43.20 a month or $518.40 a year to make it happen.

7. Mariana, our director, was invited to speak to the Romanian Parliament. She received a standing ovation, and The Village of Hope was recognized for being one of the most successful organizations of its kind in Europe.

Last year we launched our daily devotional The Word For You Today in several new countries.

Russia: 100,000 copies a quarter. Argentina: 70,000. Ecuador: 50,000. China: 180,000 readers now get it daily on an app, and the government approved us printing 10,000 one-year editions for the pastors of the Three Self Church. This is historic.

All this has happened because of friends and partners like you. Thank you for faithfully standing by us.

Paul acknowledged those who helped him to fulfill his vision: "Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy, for you have been my partners..." (Php 1:3-5 NLT).

At the beginning of each New Year, Debby and I do two things that God has faithfully blessed – and we invite you to join us this year.

First, we prayerfully make a list of our goals for the coming year. Second, we give God a special offering and ask for His blessing in particular areas of our life. The Bible says, "He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully" (2Co 9:6).

Since this is 2018, we wrote a check for $2,018. We have done this faithfully for over 20 years and have been amazed at how God blesses us.

We invite you to join us by writing down your "Goals For 2018" on the enclosed prayer sheet, and by sowing a "seed" of $2,018...$201.80...or $20.18.

No gift is too large or too small. Just sow your "best" seed and trust God to move in the areas where you need His blessing this year.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Goals For 2018

'SEND PORTIONS TO THOSE FOR WHOM NOTHING IS PREPARED' (Nehemiah 8.10 NKJV)

2017
December 15

A very blessed Christmas to you and your loved ones!

When the Jews returned home to Jerusalem after years in captivity, they celebrated with a great feast. That's when God said to them: "Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared."

What a picture of the love and thoughtfulness of God! He tells the "haves" to enjoy their blessings – and reach out to "the have-nots." That's what we’re doing this Christmas through The Village of Hope in Romania.

Last week we sent a truck loaded with food, clothes, medicine, and Christmas gifts to an impoverished village on the Romania-Moldova border where 87 families live. We visited each family to make sure they had what they needed.

Our goal this year is to give 350 Christmas parcels with toys, books, candies, and clothing to our poorest foster families. Each parcel costs $35...we invite you to join us in providing one or more Christmas parcels.

Ultimately, the best gift we can give a child...is a family. I’ve included two photos, each with their own story.

A couple who attended one of the "foster family mentoring classes" where we promote our program; had no children and wanted two little girls.

When they saw Melissa and Irena, both 4 years old, they felt their prayers were answered. We found a “Family Sponsor” to support them, and now they are together as a family.

3 year-old Andrea and 5 year-old Simona who came from backgrounds of abuse, met at The Village of Hope, and became best friends. When their new foster parents saw how the girls had bonded they took them both.

Right now we have children and qualified couples who want them, but we need “Family Sponsors” to put them together.

This Christmas would you prayerfully consider doing something very special...becoming a Foster Family Sponsor?

For $518.40 you can sponsor a family for one year.

For $259.20 you can sponsor a family for 6 months.

For $129.60 you can sponsor a family for 3 months.

For $86.40 you can sponsor a family for 2 months.

For $43.20 you can sponsor a family for one month.

Your gift will change a child’s life and future!

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

IT’S CHRISTMAS AT THE VILLAGE OF HOPE IN ROMANIA!

2017
December 1

A very blessed Christmas to you!

The photo on the right is Andre age 5-½, and Maria age 6, leaving The Village of Hope to go home with their new foster parents.

These two children are not siblings, but met at The Village of Hope and became inseparable friends. Since they have each suffered abuse, abandonment, and loss, we decided to keep them together by finding a couple willing to take them both.

It took 9 months – but we did it. Can you imagine how wonderful Christmas will be for this new family?

Each month we place 20-25 children into foster families. By the end of this month we will reach a big milestone...3,500 children rescued and placed into foster families in the past 20 years!

A big "thank you" to each of our "Foster Family Sponsors" who make this possible by giving $43.20 a month or $518.40 a year to sponsor a family.

At-risk children like 2-½ year-old Corina (see photo) arrive on our doorstep almost daily, so we always need new Foster Family Sponsors. Would you consider becoming one?

Even if you can sponsor a family for a few months, we can place a child while we wait for a full-time sponsor.

This is the most exciting time of year at The Village of Hope with Christmas parties, caroling, and gift-giving. For most of our kids it's the first Christmas celebration they've experienced.

You ask, "Bob, how can I help?"

Again, this year, we want to give a "Christmas Parcel" to our poorest foster families. Many of them live in rural villages where unemployment runs over 50%. These couples take children because have big hearts of love, but they struggle to get by.

During the next few weeks our team of social workers will visit 350 of these families and give them a "Christmas parcel" of toys, books, candy and small clothing items.

Our director Mariana says, "The look on their faces is one of amazement, because they have never received a wrapped gift."

Each Christmas parcel costs...$35.

Perhaps you could provide 10 Christmas parcels at...$350, or 5 Christmas parcels at...$175...or 2 Christmas parcels at $70...or your best gift.

You could even make it a Christmas project for your business or church.

Before you get busy with the holidays, take a moment and get in touch with us.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

I look forward to hearing from you.

'Defend The Poor and Fatherless: Do Justice To The Afflicted and Needy.” Psalm 82:3

2017
November 15
Blessings to you!

Everything we do for Romania's at-risk children is based on Scriptures like this: "Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy."

Last month our director, Mariana, was invited to address the Romanian Parliament. When she told them 67 percent of all abandoned children end up being sexually exploited, the chairman said, "That's not a very high number." Marianna told him, "Every child is precious in God’s sight.” He agreed.

Afterwards, he gave her a “Letter of Commendation” that says The Village of Hope is highly respected across Europe. That honor also goes to partners like you who faithfully support us each month.

Three little brothers who were abandoned by their mother. She found a new boyfriend who didn’t want kids, so she chose him over them. Sadly, they ended up begging on the streets. Andrew is 7, Silvio is 5, and Mircea is only 3.

We are looking for a foster family to take all three boys as we don't want to split them up. We need "Foster Family Sponsors" willing to support them at $43.20 a month, or $518.40 a year.

We currently have 39 children living at The Village of Hope and attending school while they wait for a foster family. Even if you can sponsor a family for a few months, we can place them while we look for a full-time sponsor.

Right now we need to clothe 250 children from our poorest foster families with winter clothes...warm coats, scarves, knitted caps, boots, leggings, gloves and heavy socks at a cost of $50 per child.

Can you help?

Perhaps your church or business could outfit several children.
You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Debby and I look forward to hearing from you.

13-Year Old Gabriella Prostituted By Her Mother and Chained To Stop Her From Escaping!

2017
November 1
November 1, 2017

Debby and I have worked in Romania for 26 years rescuing at-risk children from state-run orphanages, the streets, human trafficking, and the sex trade and placed 250-300 children a year into foster families.

To date we have rescued almost 3,500 children!

During that time, we’ve “seen a lot of bad stuff done to good kids.” But periodically a story comes along that still shocks us - like this one.

Gabriella’s mother prostituted her for money, making her service several “customers” each day. At 13 she got pregnant and tried to run away from home, so her mother chained her ankles so she could not escape!

Gabriella is now 16 and has two children by unknown fathers, a 20-month-old and a 4-month-old. I’ve enclosed a picture of her chained ankles, but for obvious reasons, not her face.

When Child Protection Services contacted us, we brought Gabriella and her two children to The Village of Hope.

This week we will take them to a pediatric hospital to be thoroughly examined, and then we will begin to work with them. Eventually we’ll look for a family to take all three of them.

Until then, they will stay with us on the third floor of The Village of Hope, where we care for abandoned and abused children up to 4 years of age.

Some of the other children on this floor who are waiting for a foster family are Jasmine, who is 14 months old and her older brother Stephan, who is 4 years old. Also 14-month-old Lelia and 2-year-old Maria.

As a father of two adult children and grandfather of three college-age children whom I love dearly, I struggle to understand how any parent could do such things to their children. I know you feel the same way.

There’s an ancient saying, “Either curse the darkness, or light a candle.” Through wonderful friends and partners like you, we “light candles” for these children day after day.

At 73, I regularly ask myself, “Lord, is what I’m doing pleasing You and fulfilling Your Word?” As I started writing this blog a Scripture from Jeremiah 22:16 came to me:

“‘He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so
all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?’
  declares the Lord” (NIV).

The words “all went well” make it clear that when we take care of the things that concern God, namely the “poor and needy,” He will take care of the things that concern us.

In the past two months our partners have generously given “extra” to purchase two new minivans to transport children and staff, and $12,000 to purchase heating fuel to keep everyone warm through the cold winter months at The Village of Hope.

You ask, “Bob, what can I do to help this month?”

We urgently need to provide 250 children in our poorer foster families with winter clothes, including warm coats, knitted caps, sweaters, leggings, boots, scarves and gloves.

We work with a local consignment store and can outfit each child for just $50. If you’re a parent, you know what a bargain that is. Perhaps you, your business, or your church could outfit several children.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Thank you for caring.

Debby and I look forward to hearing from you.

31 Children Ready For Foster Families!

2017
October 15
Blessings to you!

We have 31 children ready to be placed into a foster family and foster families willing to take them.

That amounts to one child placed into a family each day!

A very special thank you to our "Foster Family Sponsors" who give $43.20 a month, or $518.40 a year, to make it possible for poor, but big-hearted Romanian couples to take a child.

Right now we need more Foster Family Sponsors. Even if you can be a sponsor for a month or two, we can go ahead and place the child while we wait for a full-time sponsor.

Our social workers held a training session for 27 potential foster parents. We hold these classes several times a year in various parts of Romania.

For 26 years we’ve rescued Romania's most at-risk children from state-run orphanages, the streets, and human trafficking, and given them what very child deserves – love, hope, a home, and a future.

Let me share with you three of the 31 children.

The first is 9 month-old Samantha. Her Romanian mother gave birth to her in France and abandoned her at the maternity hospital. The French Authorities sent her back to Romania and the Romanian Border Police brought her to us.

The second photo is of two 8 year-old boys; Alexander and Liviu. Both are in our after-school program which helps kids who are behind in their education.

These are just 3 of the 31 children ready to be placed into a foster family!

It's now getting cold in Romania (temperatures dip to 20 degrees below), and we need to purchase fuel to heat our 10,000 square foot building.

The total is $12,000, or $2,000 a month.

Good news! A pastor friend is giving us $5,000 as a "matching challenge." That means if we can raise $5,000, he will match it! This will cover most of the cost.

Here is how we can do it.

100 friends and partners giving a one-time gift of $50...or 200 friends and partners giving $25...or your best gift, will heat The Village of Hope and keep the kids warm this winter.

Can you help?

The Bible says that when Jesus "Saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless like sheep without a shepherd" (Mt 9:36 NLT).

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Thank you for showing compassion. We look forward to hearing from you this week.

On Track To Place 300 At-risk Children Into Foster Families By Year’s End!

2017
October 1
Blessings to you!

From January through September of 2017, we’ve rescued 225 at-risk children and placed them into foster families. That's an average of 25 children each month. So we are on track to reach our goal of placing 300 more children by the end of the year.

A big “Thank You” to our friends, partners, and "Foster Family Sponsors” who give $43.20 a month or $518.40 a year.

You’ll notice some children at The Village of Hope holding American and Romanian flags. They wanted to let you know how much they appreciate all you've done for them.

Let me share with you  – some of the children’s own stories.

Six year-old Andrei and his new foster mother. He stayed with us for 9 months, because we had a hard time completing the government paperwork that requires us to find any living relatives to see if they want to take him.

Andrei has been a real encourager to new children arriving, who feel the same fear that he experienced when he first arrived. Our staff loves him and will miss him.

The next are three children reunited with their father. The mother and father were divorced and the mother had custody of the children. But she abandoned them and Child Protection Services brought them to us.

Our social workers tracked down the father and he was thrilled to get them back. We will make sure this family have what they need, and that the children are in school, healthy, and well-cared for.

In October it starts getting cold in Romania, with temperatures eventually dipping to 20 below zero. To heat all three floors of The New Village of Hope this winter will cost $12,000 for 6 months, or $2,000 a month.

We need your help!

Please send your "most generous gift" to help keep the kids warm this winter! Perhaps you, your business, or your church, could send a special gift of $2,000 to cover the heating costs for one month.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Help Heat The Village of Hope This Winter

We Need To Purchase Two New Minivans For The Village of Hope In Romania.

2017
September 15

Blessings to you!

In my last letter I told you our two minivans at The Village of Hope in Romania have stopped running. They are 10 years-old and have over 200,000 miles on them – so they have served us well.

The cost to purchase two new minivans is $12,000 each – a total of $24,000. This has hit us unexpectedly as the funds were not in this year's budget.

So I'm asking you to prayerfully consider sending the most generous one-time gift you can.

A Bible promise Debby and I stand on when we give to meet special needs like this is:

"Blessed are those who are generous, because they feed the poor."  Proverbs 22:9 NLT

I couldn't count the times God has blessed us when we responded to a special need He laid on our hearts.

Sometimes His blessing came in our finances, other times in areas such as His wisdom in a difficult decision, or His healing touch, or His protection in the life of a family member.

And what God has done for us, He will do for you too!

This week something remarkable happened at The Village of Hope. A couple took FOUR children!

Loran is ten years-old, Ianos is six years-old, Timea is five years-old, and Ciprian is eighteen months-old

Most foster parents take one child, or sometimes two. But imagine taking four! This is an answer to prayer as we always want to keep siblings together.

If you are a "Family Sponsor" thank you for being the backbone of this ministry.

Right now we have qualified foster couples ready to take children, but we need more "Family Sponsors" to give $43.20 a month or $518.40 a year to enable them to take a child.

Even if you can only be a family sponsor for a month or two, it means we can continue placing children while we wait for full-time sponsors.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Thank you for caring. I look forward to hearing from you this week.

Our 2 minivans have quit running!

Urgent! Our two minivans are 10 years-old, with over 200,000 miles – and have quit running!

2017
September 1
Blessings to you!

Ten years ago we purchased two new Fiat minivans for The Village of Hope in Romania. They run 24-hours-a-day and are critical to our operation. Here are just a few of the things they enable us to do:

(1) Rescue children found by the Border Police and Child Protection Services. (2) Enable our social workers to make regular "unannounced" visits to foster families to ensure the children are well-cared for. (3) Transport children to doctor and dental visits, school and many other places.

These two minivans are our lifeline!

Let me tell you of two children we recently picked up in our minivan.

The first is 8 month-old Aisha who was abandoned at a doctor’s office. (Mothers know doctors will make sure their children are placed with Child Protection Services).

The second is 4 year-old Yasmina. It is said, "The eyes are the window of the soul." This little girl’s eyes tell the story of a lost child, afraid and alone in the world.

Since we keep a list of qualified foster parents who want children, we will be able to place both children once the government paperwork is completed.

We place 20-25 children into foster families each month; 250-300 a year...and our minivans are essential to making that happen.

Both our Fiat minivans are now 10 years old, with over 200,000 miles on each. Mariana, our director, says they have quit running altogether and we urgently need new ones. (I've included photos of one and the engine that no longer runs).

We can purchase two new Dacia minivans for $12,000 each – a total of $24,000. Since they are made in Romania they will be more easily serviced.

This is a big, unexpected expense and I need your help.

I have asked God to speak to the hearts of 80 friends and partners who will give $300...or 160 friends and partners who will give $150...or 320 friends and partners who will give $75...or your best gift.

One of my mother’s favorite Scriptures was: "He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given” (Pr 19:17 NKJV).

Although my father died at 43 years of age and she was left to raise her three children on a small welfare check of $9 a week, plus what she earned cleaning people's houses, my mother would still give to those in need.

She would say: "I am lending it to The Lord, because I like the interest He pays."

And God will do the same for you!

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

'CHILDREN ARE A GIFT FROM THE LORD' Psalm 127:3 (NLT)

2017
August 15
Blessings to you!

Today I was reading these two Scriptures: "Children are a gift from the Lord" (Ps 127:3 NLT). “Beware that you don't look down on any of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels are always in the presence of my heavenly Father" (Mt 18:10 NLT).

These two Scriptures show us the value God places on every child that comes into the world. They are "gifts" that must be loved and protected. I believe this is why God’s blessing is upon The Village of Hope in Romania, where each month we rescue 20-25 at-risk children and place them into foster families.

Let me share with you 2 stories of children that have come to The Village of Hope:

The first is 12 year-old Robi. Two years ago we placed him in a foster family – he is very happy and excelling in school. Next month he starts high school and has been picked to play on the soccer team. For him it's a dream come true as he loves the game.

For the past three summers Robi has returned to The Village of Hope to work with the younger kids attending their first summer camp. It's his way of "giving back" and it's gratifying to see many of our older kids doing it too.

The second is 7 year-old Stephan who just got a new foster family...and a new kitty.

Stephan is like so many of our kids who experienced verbal, emotional, physical, and even sexual abuse. Watching these kids being healed and restored and given a new life makes all the hard work and sacrifice worth it.

As I mentioned in my last blog, our support drops in summertime due to many of our friends and partners being gone on vacation.

Right now we need "some extra help" in two areas.

1. More "Foster Family Sponsors" who can give $43.20 a month or $518.40 a year.  Even if you can only sponsor a few months, we can go ahead and place the child into a foster family while we wait for a full-time sponsor.

2. This year 400 children want to attend one of the 12-day summer camp sessions at a cost of $75 per child. So far we have been able to do it for 340 of them.

Would you prayerfully consider sponsoring one or more of these last 60 kids? This camp can be a life-changing experience for a child, and your gift – large or small - can make it happen.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

I look forward to hearing from you this week.

We Placed 17 More Children Into Foster Families!

2017
August 1
Blessings to you!

Last month we placed another 17 Romanian children into foster families. Each child has their own story of abandonment and abuse, and each represents a miracle made possible through the prayers and generosity of friends and partners like you.

Here are three of their stories:

1. We placed 9 year-old Darius and his 3 year-old sister Anna with a wonderful couple who have no children of their own. The father is an engineer and the mother is a mathematics professor at a local college.

These two children lived with us at The Village of Hope for almost two years. That is unusual, as most of the kids we rescue are processed and placed within a few months. But we wanted to keep them together, so we waited and prayed for a couple who would take them both. God answered our prayer!

2. A little boy, 5 year-old Cristian, is leaving us this week to begin life with his new foster family. He was also able to attend 12 days of children's summer camp and loved it.

3. Six month-old Rual is now in our care. His mother abandoned him at a doctor’s office and we were called to come and get him. Sadly this is happening more and more. Our social workers are trying to find his paperwork and family history so we can look for a foster family to take him.

Our director Mariana and her team interview and place children almost every day of the year.

Right now, we have children in residence waiting for a home and qualified couples willing to take them. Our biggest need is for more "Foster Family Sponsors" giving $43.20 a month which enables many of these couples to take a child.

Even if you can be a sponsor for three months for $129.60 ...or two months for $86.40...or one month for $43.20...we can go ahead and place a child while we look for a full-time sponsor.

Would you prayerfully consider this need and get back to me?

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Your gift in any amount will help to change the future for a child. Thanks for caring.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Some of The Kids at Summer Camp

2017
July 15
Blessings!

Our 10th Annual Children's Summer Camp at The Village of Hope in Romania is in full swing with groups of 50 kids enjoying 12 exciting, fun-filled days.

They are unlike any group of kids you've ever seen because of what they've been through. Physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Abandonment, hunger, poverty, sickness, and in some cases being "sold" into slave labor and the sex trade.

They come from big cities and small farming villages. They have stories of heartache resulting in emotional scars and "trust issues" that must be dealt with so we can place them into a family.

Each month we place 20-25 children into foster families.

Doing it requires the dedicated efforts of a team of psychologists, social workers, therapists, doctors, dentists, gardeners, janitors and cooks working three shifts at The Village of Hope.

It’s happening through the generosity of our "Foster Family Sponsors" who give $43.20 a month or $518.40 a year, enabling Romanian couples to take a child, and also through friends and partners sending gifts. It's a team effort!

6 year-old Voltar and his 18 month-old sister, Maria. Another is of 3 year-old Stephania. Another is of 12 year-old Adriana who was found living on the streets after running away from an abusive home.

All four of these children attended the first session of summer camp!

The only requirement for a child to attend summer camp is that they are potty trained. The ages range from 18 months to early teens, and we have age appropriate activities for them all.

This year 400 children want to come to summer camp, at a cost of $75 each. Thanks to your generous response to my last letter we are over half way there.

We just need 175 more "camp sponsors" to give $75 or 300 to give $37.50 so all 400 kids can come.

Would you prayerfully consider sponsoring a child or several children?

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Thank you for "being there" for us. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

400 Children Attend Our 10th Annual Summer Camp!

2017
July 1
Blessings to you!

Excitement is running high at The Village of Hope in Romania! This week our 10th Annual Summer Camp began and will run through September 8 when school goes back.

Last year 250 children attended. This year 400 want to attend the 12 fun-filled days of recreation, sports, arts and crafts, field trips, movies and Bible stories.

Some of the kids attending are living at The Village of Hope, waiting for a foster family. Others are kids we've placed into foster families. The majority are from impoverished backgrounds and it's like a dream come true.

Our heroic 71 year-old director Mariana, some of our teachers and summer camp counselors, and kids playing indoor games and doing arts and crafts works with the children.

Five year-old Stephan, the abuse this little boy suffered before he was brought to us shouldn't happen to any child. But this week he's at camp laughing, running and playing with his new friends.

The cost of sending a child to summer camp for 12 days is $75. And we need your help.

Would you prayerfully consider being one of 400 partners sponsoring a child for $75...or 800 partners giving $37.50?

Some partners are sponsoring 2 children for $150, or 3 children for $225, or 4 children for $300. Perhaps you, your business, or your church could do this.

No gift is too big, and none too small when it comes to changing the lives of these children.

Today I was reading one of the promises God makes to those who are generous toward the needy.

"Give generously, for your gifts will return to you
later. Divide your gifts among many, for in the days
ahead you yourself may need much help" (Ecc 11:1-2 TLB).

God knows what the future holds. And He promises that one day when you need it most, your seeds of generosity will come back to you as a harvest of blessing.

In the 60 years I've been preaching God’s Word (I started at 13) I've proven this to be true – you will too!

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Thank you for your generosity. We look forward to hearing from you.

145 Children Placed Into Foster Families This Year!

2017
June 15
Blessings!

In the first 5 months of this year we rescued 145 at-risk children in Romania and placed them into foster families. That keeps us on target with our goal of placing 20-25 children a month, or 250-300 this year.

Last week a lady who works with six different children's homes in Germany, visited The Village of Hope. She was amazed!

She told our director Mariana: "You are rescuing and placing more children than all six of our children's homes combined – and at a fraction of the cost."

This was a great encouragement to us!

Debby and I see ourselves "stewards" rather than "owners" of this ministry. For the past 25 years we have "managed" it for God, believing we are accountable to Him.

We also believe we are accountable to you, and strive to operate with the highest standards of efficiency and integrity.

Jesus taught this in one of his parables: "There was a certain rich man who had a steward, and an accusation was brought against him that he was wasting his goods. So he called him and said to him...give an account of your stewardship" (Luke 16 1:2).

The great thing about being a good steward is that it brings the promise of God’s blessings in this life and eternal rewards in the next one.

In my letters you see photos of some of the children you helped rescue, but in heaven you’ll meet many of them personally. Won't that be wonderful?

Six-year-old Carmen and one-year-old David were recently brought to us at The Village of Hope.  When the authorities found them abandoned in an apartment, Big Brother was trying to protect and care for Little Brother.  It was very moving.

We will find a foster family to take both boys and keep them together as they have already suffered so much.

You ask, "What can I do to help?"

First, send the most generous gift you can. Second, become a "foster Family Sponsor." $43.20 a month makes it possible for a Romanian couple to take a child ($518.40 a year).

Even if you can be a sponsor for a few months, we can place the child while we wait for a full-time sponsor. Perhaps your church or business could become a sponsor.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Thank you for caring. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

10 Things We Do At The Village of Hope!

2017
June 1
June 1, 2017

Blessings to you!

Recently someone asked me: "What does a typical day at The Village of Hope in Romania look like?" Answer:

1. When the police get calls about abandoned and abused children and they have no "safe" relatives who want them, they are brought to us. This happens around the clock.

2. When a child is trafficked into slave labor or the sex trade in another country and sent back to Romania, Border Police call us to come and get them. If their family sold them and no relatives want them, we keep them and look for a foster family.

3. We provide temporary accommodation for unwed mothers who want to keep their babies, and teach them how to care for them. We help them find jobs, daycare, a place to live, and pay their rent for a few months until they get on their feet.

4. We find jobs for unemployed foster parents who take children, so that the family can stay together. We also make regular, unannounced visits to be sure the children are cared for and doing well in school. This is a government requirement.

5. We provide after-school tutors for children who are behind in their education and those with learning disabilities.

6. We provide marriage counseling and work with rehab centers. Our goal is to "keep families together."

7. We make sure each child has school clothes and books, dental care, health care, eyeglasses, proper nutrition, and counseling when they need it.

8. Because of their troubled past, some children we place into foster families have psychological problems and trust issues, and get into trouble. Some run away, some end up in court, and we have lawyers who volunteer their time to help them. God never gives up on us, and we don't give up on any child!

9. We hold meetings in towns so people can learn about The Village of Hope and become foster parents. We get foster parents together so they can meet and support one another.

10. Our director Mariana meets with the government to advocate for at-risk children, let the politicians know about the need, and what we are doing to meet it.

Those are just 10 things we do each day. We also provide the children with Christmas gifts and Easter baskets, and hold three months of summer camp every year.

Legally we are responsible for the oversight of each child we place until they reach 18. Our records show that so far we have placed over 3,250 children into foster families.

Why do we do it? Because these children need our help and  God has called us to do it. How do we do it? Through generous friends and partners like you who pray and support us each month.

In Mark 9:36-37 the Bible says: “[Jesus] took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them, 'Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives...Him who sent Me."

Bottom line – when you show love to a child in need, you show your love for God!

Thank you for caring, we look forward to hearing from you.

Rescuing Abandoned Babies!

2017
May 15
Blessings to you and happy Mother’s Day!

When Debby and I first started working in Romania 25 years ago, what we saw broke our hearts and moved us to action. The communist government had fallen and 23 million people were living in poverty.

The worst victims were the children - 250,000 abandoned and abused children living in state-run orphanages without heat, clothes, food and medicine. We even found children with mental and emotional problems chained to beds.

So for several years we ran truck convoys of aid to 72 different orphanages in Romania and Moldova.

Fast forward to today. We have a new 10,000 square foot building called The Village of Hope. And we have a dedicated team of people who rescue at-risk children and place 20-25 of them into foster families each month, working three shifts, 7 days-a-week - 24 hours-a-day.

Honestly, we thought by now that things would be much better in Romania, and for 10% of the population things are. But 90% still live beneath the poverty line. We also thought the government would have solved the crisis and begun caring for their children – but they haven't!

Hospitals contact us weekly to come and get babies abandoned by teenage mothers who live on the streets; teenagers who themselves were abandoned. Some actually bring their children to the hospital and leave them, because they don't want them.

Doctors and nurses ask us to buy medicine and bring it to the hospital to treat sick children...because they don't have medicine.

We work with pharmacies who give us discounted prices because they realize we are the best option these children have. This is hard to grasp when you live in a modern country like ours, but it's a daily fact of life in Romania.

Some of these babies and children, because we cannot meet this need alone and you have shown you care. Thank you!

I recall these words of Jesus:

"Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 18:10 NKJV).

God has a special love for children because they are needy and vulnerable, and because He knows they are our future.

Our goal in rescuing these children is to give each one of them a chance to grow into maturity and become healthy, productive adults and parents who know how to care for their own children.

That's how we can break this vicious cycle and turn things around in Romania. And it’s a big undertaking. But as Mother Theresa said, "We cannot all do great things, but we can all do small things with great love."

We look forward to hearing from you.

Happy Mother’s Day!

2017
May 1

Blessings to you and "Happy Mother’s Day!"

They say, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Let me share some stories with you.

The first is 4 year-old Andre and his new foster parents. This Romanian couple tried for years to have children and when they couldn't they came to us. When they saw Andre and he saw them, it was "love at first sight!"

After months of the usual government paperwork, interviews with our social workers, and supervised weekend visits, they took Andre home to a wonderful new life.

6 year-old Stephan; this little boy loves to play soccer and is very bright, but he's also withdrawn and has serious "trust issues." That's because his parents said they were going to Germany to find work and promised to send for him. Sadly they broke off contact and never came back.

Stephan lived with an uncle who neglected and abused him, until Child Protection Services rescued him and brought him to us.

The Village of Hope is now considered one of the most successful organizations of its kind in Europe. That's due to two things: (1) Our amazing director Mariana and her team. (2) The 1,500 partners in our support base who sponsor foster families each month and give one-time gifts.

You are one of them – and Debby and I are grateful for all you do. You are our lifeline!

This month as we celebrate Mother's Day, we have children who need a foster family, and qualified couples who want a child. But they need our help to do it.

You can make this happen by becoming a "Foster Family Sponsor" at $43.20 a month or $518.40 a year, or by sending a special "Mother’s Day gift" in any amount.

Right now, our grounds crew is getting ready to plant another vegetable garden so the children will have healthy food throughout the year. We also have cows, pigs and chickens.

Our director Mariana just e-mailed us to request an extra $700 to buy seed! Perhaps you could help with this!

Jesus said that when we show love to "the least of one of these" we show our love for Him. We look forward to hearing from you.

The Story of 6 Year-Old Nicoletta

2017
April 15
Easter blessings to you!

So far this month, 18 at-risk children have been brought to us at The Village of Hope in Romania. Because of your prayers and support we were able to take them in and promise them a new family and a better life.

One of them is six year-old Nicoletta – here’s her story.

This little girl cannot remember her father and mother because she was abandoned at birth. She spent her life in an overcrowded, state-run orphanage where living conditions are not good – lack of heat, lack of medicine, and barely enough food to survive.

Nicoletta is shy, but she's very intelligent and is now excelling in school. Let me tell you about the potential of a child like this.

Years ago a little girl was brought to us, traumatized and badly abused. But love is the medicine that heals wounded souls and restores hope. As a result, she grew up and became one of our social workers at The Village of Hope!

Last week, our director Mariana met with the new director of Romanian Child Protection Services. They discussed the growing child trafficking problem in Romania.  She told Mariana: "It's now as bad in rural farming communities as it is in the cities. Parents are 'selling' their children to wealthy families as slaves."

Can you imagine what this does to a child? The memories and messages in their minds that tell them, "Nobody loves you - nobody cares about you – you’re worthless!"

Those memories cannot be healed in an institution...even one as good as The Village of Hope. That's why we rehabilitate and re-socialize these children, and place them into qualified foster families.

Psalm 68:5-6 says God is a "Father to the fatherless," and He "places the lonely in families." That Scripture means, together we are doing "God's work" - and God has promised to reward us.

Right now we have qualified foster families wanting children, and children waiting for a family. What we need are more "Foster Family Sponsors" who can give $43.20 a month, or $518.40 a year.

If you are a foster family sponsor, thank you for making it possible for us to place 25-30 at-risk children into foster families each month. That's 250-300 children every year!

Some of our foster family sponsors are doing this for several children. Perhaps your business, or your church, a group of your friends could do this.

Even if you can sponsor a family for a few months, we can go ahead and place the child while we wait for a full-time sponsor.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

I'm glad I have you to share this need with and I look forward to hearing from you.

A Small Rural Town In Romania Takes 62 Foster Children!

2017
April 1
Blessings to you!

During the 25 years Debby and I have worked in Romania rescuing at-risk children from state-run orphanages, the streets and the sex trade, this is one of our most remarkable stories.

The small rural town of Salegeni has taken 62 foster children!

Our social workers assist with a group of children in a kindergarten class in this town, which is just outside Timisoara, Romania's second largest city.

To date we have placed 62 children into foster families in Salegeni! Unemployment in towns like this can run at more than 50 percent. The hardship these foster families face each day is incredible, but they have loving and generous hearts.

Our team makes regular visits to this town to be sure the children are getting a good education, and also to provide clothes, medicine, food and financial help to the foster families.

Two years ago the European Union promised financial help for Romania's poorest areas, but it has not happened. As their plight gets worse, more and more families are unable to care for their children...and they are dropping out of school at an alarming rate.

Without an education these kids have no hope for the future, and the cycle of poverty and despair will continue.

Here's what we are doing to address this.

First, we are rescuing 20-25 children each month, placing them into qualified foster families and assisting those families with basic needs. Second, our team of social workers makes regular visits to be sure each child is well cared for and being educated.

You say "Bob and Debby, what can I do to help?" Two things:

1. Please pray that God will provide more "Foster Family Sponsors" willing to give $43.20 a month, or $518.40 a year. Knowing how big the need is, some of our foster family sponsors are sponsoring a second and third child. Perhaps you could consider doing this too.

Even if you can only sponsor a family for one or two months, it means we can go ahead and place the child while we wait for a full-time sponsor.

2. Send your best one-time gift, so we can keep saying "yes" to each needy child that arrives at the door of The Village of Hope.

You can call my office at 1-800-964-9846 and put a gift on your credit card, or give on this website by clicking on the GIVE tab on the top of this page.

Thank you for caring. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
